VIEWS are being sought on a scheme that could pave the way for development at Barrow’s high profile Marina Village.

Residents are asked to share their thoughts on plans to complete ground preparations on the brownfield site to enable its transformation by the private sector.

The work would involve decontaminating the land and clearing derelict buildings so the area can thrive and prosper in the future as a place people will want to live.

The Marina Village Scheme is among seven shortlisted proposals that make up #BrilliantBarrow - a bid for £25 million of Town Deals funding from the government.

Councillor Ann Thomson, leader of Barrow Borough Council and Brilliant Barrow Board member, said: “The transformation of the Marina Village site is an exciting and long held ambition that would enhance and reinvigorate this part of Barrow with high quality, mixed new homes as well as wildlife and nature habitats in a central location.

“This scheme would make sure the essential ground preparations needed on a complex site like this are completed, finally unlocking its potential for development.

“Now is the time to have your say on this scheme. Please take part in the Brilliant Barrow consultation and share your thoughts.”

The Marina Village site forms part of Barrow’s Local Plan, adopted in June 2019 where it is allocated for residential development. A series of detailed consultations were carried out involving Key stakeholders and members of the public.

Letters explaining the Brilliant Barrow scheme and inviting people to complete a questionnaire on the proposal are being sent to 200 homes located near to the Marina Village site in the Salthouse Road area of Barrow.

Residents across the borough can also complete the survey online before Wednesday July 1 here:
