Planning application fee increase
National planning application fees are increasing from 17 January 2018.
Parliamentary approval has been given to legislation that will increase fees by 20 per cent in England.
Our planning application fees will reflect this and all applications validated from this date will require payment of the new fee.
What we are doing to prepare for the change
We are currently working to ensure that we are able to implement the fee changes when they take effect.
We are also planning a wider package of measures to ensure that applicants are aware of the changes and that we minimise the potential for applications to be submitted with the incorrect ‘outdated’ fees.
What can you do to prepare for this change?
Please make sure that your application is complete including all necessary supporting information as required by both the national and local validation lists. Any delays arising in such circumstances whereby the application cannot be validated until after the deadline will be charged at the increased rate.

Details of the legislation’s progress:
•The draft SI was ‘laid’ before parliament and published online on 19 October 2017.
•The SI was approved by parliament on 19 December 2017 (view Hansard record)
•The SI was ‘signed in’ and was therefore ‘made’ on 20 December 2017.
•Therefore the 28 day clock is ticking, and the changes will come into force on 17 January 2018.
