Information about when planning permission is needed for car boot sales.
The Council consider that car boot sales can be held on land for up to 14 days per year without requiring planning permission. For more days than this a material change of use will take place for which planning permission is required. To make an application online you will need to go to the planning portal or you can get in touch with the development control department on 01229 876375 to discuss.
A primary consideration in dealing with any application is the following Policy from the Borough Local Plan Review:
Applications for the holding of car boots sales on land for more than 14 days per year will be permitted provided that:
- the site is on a main distributor road, with access taken directly from it, and with enough on-site car parking to accommodate the needs of both traders and customers;
- there would be no harm to the living conditions of nearby residents; and
- the use would not harm the vitality and viability of a town centre.
