Incentive Schemes

We have three reward schemes: Good Tenants, Good Neighbour ‘Thank You’ and Leave it Clean scheme. The schemes reward tenants and residents who take care of their home and help their local communities.

Good Tenant Award

The Good Tenant Award recognises tenants who take good care of their home and keep to the tenancy terms.

Successful applicants will receive a £50 shopping voucher.

Who can apply

You can apply if you:

  • have had no rent arrears for at least 3 months. It does not matter whether you pay rent yourself or receive help with your housing costs.  A clear rent account means there are no arrears on your account. Flexibility may be allowed for tenants who pay monthly by Direct Debit or Standing Order
  • have not caused anti-social behaviour
  • keep your home, garden and outdoor areas in good condition
  • have allowed access for gas and electrical safety checks when needed, without delay

Housing Landlord Service staff can also nominate tenants for an award.

We will check your tenancy records. If you meet the criteria, we will consider your application for an award.

Good Neighbour Award

We want to thank tenants and residents who go the extra mile to help their neighbours and community.

Throughout the year, successful nominees will receive a £50 shopping voucher.

Who can be nominated

To qualify for nomination, the person must either:

  • live on a council estate
  • make a positive difference to people who live on a council estate

How to nominate someone

To nominate someone, please provide:

  • your name, address, email address and telephone number
  • the name and address of the person you are nominating
  • why they deserve the award and how they have helped other people

Leave it Clean Scheme

If you are moving out of your council home, you may be able to receive £100 in shopping vouchers.

This scheme encourages tenants to leave their property clean and tidy so it can be re-let quickly.

Who can apply

To qualify for the scheme, you must:

  • be up to date with your rent payments
  • give us 4 weeks' notice that you are ending your tenancy
  • tell us in writing that you want to apply for the scheme when you give notice
  • return all keys and fobs by midday on the Monday, or next working day, after your tenancy ends
  • be moving into private rented or owner-occupied accommodation, not another council property
  • leave no repairs that would result in a rechargeable repair charge
  • leave the property clean, tidy and empty

This includes:

  • all rooms
  • cupboards
  • loft spaces
  • gardens
  • sheds
  • garages
  • other outdoor areas

Any floor coverings or other items agreed by the Housing Landlord Service may remain. You must remove all rubbish, unwanted furniture and personal belongings from the property. 

Waste and unwanted items

You may not receive the voucher if you do not correctly dispose of furniture, rubbish or other waste.

To dispose of waste and unwanted items:

  • take items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre
  • arrange a bulky waste collection by calling 01229 876543

Tenancies ending following the death of a tenant

The person responsible for ending the tenancy may also be eligible to apply for the scheme.

To qualify:

  • the property must be left clean, tidy and empty
  • all scheme conditions must be met
  • the Housing Landlord Service must inspect the property and approve the application
