Shoppers will be able to take advantage of late night shopping and entertainment next week when Barrow Market trials a later opening.

Barrow Market is currently at the forefront of an exciting scheme to help regenerate the centre of the town thanks to an award of £16 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. The money will be used to transform the market into a new destination that has shopping and experiences at its heart in order to attract more people to the town and to encourage them to stay for longer. In partnership with The Forum, The Twilight Event, taking place between 4pm and 8.30pm on Friday 10 February, is to showcase what the new market venue could offer in the future as part of a major transformation scheme.

The Twilight Event will not only feature an opportunity for a bit of late night shopping, there will also be food, drinks and entertainment.

Councillor Derek Brook, Lead Member for Community at Barrow Borough Council, said: “We hope to see a great turn out for this event which will be a taster of what’s to come for Barrow Market as we move into the future and the exciting plans we have in place for it.

“Barrow Market already has so much to offer, and we are now developing it further so it can meet it’s full potential and offer the people of Barrow and the surrounding area a great evening out.

“Along with seeing the friendly faces of the market traders, there will be food, drink and entertainment. It’s going to be an unmissable event.”

The event is free to attend and will provide entertainment from The Aerobees, the Bread & Butter Theatre Company and DJ Jonny Williams (Cando FM) accompanied by Emma Howarth on saxophone. Food and drinks can be purchased at the event and will be provided by a number of local companies including Kin Vodka, Wolftown Gin, Kickass Cheese, Tailors Cocktail Making, The Hive Bistro, Tuk Thai food, Grapevine the Wine Service, Ulverston Brewery and Sire Woofchester – Canine Hospitality. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
