BARROW’S biggest visitor attractions are set to host a summer of fun - along with the opportunity for people to help shape future events and activities on offer in the town.

A range of exciting activities designed to keep people of all ages entertained will take place at both The Dock Museum and The Forum on selected days during the school holidays.

The sessions form part of the #BrilliantBarrow Place Development project which aims to promote Barrow as an inspirational place to live, work and visit.

Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council and a member of the #BrilliantBarrow board, said: “There will be an exciting array of free entertainment, activities and taster sessions on offer this summer which we hope will provide something for everyone to enjoy.

“What we want to see is people coming into town to discover what’s happening each and every week through the school holidays.

“This really captures the essence of #BrilliantBarrow and the Place Development project - bringing people together and attracting visitors to the area through an inspiring programme of events held in high quality spaces.”

Earlier this year #BrilliantBarrow secured the maximum award of £25 million from the Government’s Towns Fund for seven major regeneration projects.

One of these is the Place Development project.

Alongside the development of an events and activities offer, the project will provide two quality event spaces in Barrow - at The Dock Museum and behind Barrow Market Hall - which can be used to host events in the future.

This summer, in addition to its normal opening times, The Dock Museum will trial opening seven days a week throughout the school holidays.

There will also be the chance to try something new in Barrow Town Square with a series of taster sessions - including circus skills and street theatre - held each week courtesy of arts and entertainment venue The Forum.

Anyone attending either location can fill in a survey to help organisers identify the types of events and activities people would like to see in the future. It is hoped this will encourage more people to join in the fun and ensure high levels of engagement.

Cllr Thomson added: “Barrow is a fantastic and unique place with strong communities, brilliant people and a huge amount of potential. There’s nowhere else quite like it.

“The Place Development project will attract both residents and visitors to the town, increasing footfall in the town centre, boosting local businesses and retaining spend.

“I hope people enjoy the summer of fun and will help share their ideas for further events in the future.”
