BARROW Market has closed to the public to help slow the spread of Covid-19 and ease pressures on the NHS.

The closure of the popular venue comes in light of government guidance on the importance of staying at home aside from limited circumstances for the protection of older and vulnerable people in our community.

A number of traders operating from the site will instead take orders from customers online and over the phone while offering a delivery service.

Councillor Derek Brook, chair of Barrow Borough Council’s executive committee, said: “We know how popular the market is in Barrow and how loyal residents are to the businesses based there.

“A number of food-related traders will instead now take orders and offer a delivery service so people in the community have easy access to the supplies they need.

“I hope residents will continue to support them through these unprecedented times until we are able to open the market once again.

“We would urge people to keep an eye on the Barrow Market Facebook page for updates and information.”
