Personal Profile
I was born in Barrow but have spent most of my life in Dalton. I joined VSEL (now BAE Systems) back in 1977 as an apprentice shipwright. My current role is Capability Manager – Engineering.

I am skilled in a variety of disciplines and have a vast array of qualifications in Engineering, Life Cycle Management, Planning, Project Management, Metrology, Quality Control & Quality Assurance (Lead Auditor). I am currently venturing into Capability Management.

I have been married to Gill for 30 years and have two children Hollie & Josh, I also have three Grandchildren Mia, Sophie and Elena and one step Grandaughter, Kayleigh.

I was co-opted as Dalton with Newton Town Councillor in 2008, Deputy Mayor 2009/10 and Mayor for 2010/11.

I am a Director and Trustee of Dalton Community Association, a project I have been involved in over the last 7/8 years and have been part of a team that has secured in excess of £400k from charitable funders. The money has transformed what was a near derelict building into a community asset. I am Patron & Trustee/Vice Chairman of the A590’s Youth Theatre (60 children and young adults) and have recently secured funding from Francis C Scott to keep this community group solvent for the next 3 years. I am a STEM Ambassador for local schools representing BAE Systems Maritime Submarines, I am also a member of Rotary Club of Furness and am currently Chairman of Youth Services.

My hobbies include holidaying (cruising) walking, cycling, fundraising and canoeing.

I enjoy raising money for charity and once took part in a Sponsored Cycle ride across Israel raising £3k.

My ethos is “IF YOU WANT TO EFFECT CHANGE YOU NEED TO BE PART OF IT”. To utilise a phrase from Henry Royce (Rolls Royce) – TO DO ANYTHING RIGHTLY IS NOBLE, hopefully this will focus me on my constituents in Roosecote.

I am a Member of the Planning Panel and Early Retirement/Voluntary Redundancy Panel.
