What is Streetscene?
The streets of any town give a first impression of how well
local services are provided by the local councils, indeed the
street scene has been called the "shop window" of a local
authority.
Through the Streetscene initiative, Barrow Borough Council
have been reviewing the way that services are delivered in our
"shop window" to see if we can improve our service. This
includes the way we work with our service partners, and whether the
service is in line with what the users of the service - (that's
you!) - want.
We have carried out a realistic self assessment, of street
related services, to identify what we do well and, of course, what
we do poorly. We have also consulted users on their preferences for
improvement. From this, we developed an action plan for
improvement. Streetcare was established to ensure the best services
are carried out by our contactors.
Streetcare Service Information
One of the serious deficiencies identified through the
self-assessment, was the absence of any coordinated user
information on Streetcare services provided by the council. The
information held in the Streetscene pages listed in the
Related Information section should help
to redress this problem.
Each page describes the services that are provided and
how you can contact us regarding them.
However the maintenance of footpaths, roads and streetlights
are provided by Cumbria County Council, the Highways Agency and
others. Don't let that put you off giving your feedback to us. We
will redirect it to the relevant authority.
