Most play areas are dog proof, accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs and provide for children up to 11 years. A small number of play areas have facilities for teenagers (see above).

The playgrounds are inspected and cleaned regularly and are visited at least once a week. Most Barrow town centre play areas are visited daily.

There are plans to develop and refurbish various play areas as part of a rolling programme to improve the play provision in the Borough. We are committed to involving the residents of the Borough in any development or refurbishment. For example, we have recently engaged with a local secondary school in considering proposed refurbishments to some of our facilities.

We welcome suggestions for improvement from the public, please email gardensandparks@barrowbc.gov.uk

DOGS IN PLAYGROUNDS:

It is now against local Byelaws to take a dog into an enclosed play area. You are liable to a fine of up to £1000 if you commit an offence against this byelaw.
