Barrow Borough Council do not provide general debt counselling services, other than in relation to monies owed to the council by residents. (If you are having difficulty paying Council House Rent or Council Tax you should contact these departments as soon as possible.)

Do you need advice about debt?

The GOV.UK web site gives advice on Debt and Bankrupcy.

 
Citizens Advice in the north have launched a debt advice line. This advice line provides the same debt advice and management services as specialist debt advisors in bureaux. The line 0300 33 33 445 is open 9-5, Monday to Friday and is intended to provide clients with an alternative way of accessing Citizens Advice services; it is available to anyone living in Cumbria or the North East of England. Debt Advice Foundation

 
The Debt Advice Foundation, is a registered national debt education and advice charity (number 1095705).
 
It provides free access to a range of tools and practical guides on how to manage money effectively, budget and negotiate directly with creditors. The charity's self help tools section includes:
