About Us
The Building Control Department deals with a range of services
including processing and approving plans deposited under the
Building Regulations and inspecting site work on site to ensure the
Building Regulations are adhered to, dangerous structures,
demolitions, street naming and numbering.
We are separate from the Development Control (Planning)
process but work very closely with them and many other
departments. The Department has a wealth of knowledge and
experience which we hope to share with our users. You can get
in touch with us in many ways by post, telephone, fax, email,
suggestion boxes and questionnaires and of course this
website. You will find details of these within this
site.
Let us know what you think of our website and of any way you think
we can improve it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Complaints / Comments about Building Control
As a department we aim to treat our customers fairly and
sensitively and always welcome any complaints or comments our users
may have. These are valued as they highlight areas in our
service were we could make improvements or change our working
practice. If you need to make a complaint this would
initially be dealt with within the department. If a
satisfactory outcome is not achieved the Council wide complaints
procedure can be brought into action by asking for a complaints
form. An independent body can also investigate any complaints
of misadministration, they are the Local Government Ombudsman,
Beverley House, 17 Shipton Road, York, YO30 5FZ.
We can now accept comments/ complaints in many forms
including, phone, letter, email
buildcontrol@barrowbc.gov.uk,
questionnaires and by your local councillor. You can be sure
that whatever form they come in they will be welcomed and taken
seriously.
The Building Control Manager can be e-mailed with any
complaints or comments.
