Shopfront & Advertisement Design SPD

The Shopfront & Advertisement Design Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted on 29 November 2010 as part of the Council’s Local Development Framework (LDF).Shopfront & Advertisement Design SPD Cover

It supplements the policies of the saved Barrow-in-Furness Local Plan (Barrow-in-Furness Local Plan Review 1996-2006), the Barrow Port Area Action Plan Development Plan Document and one saved policy of the Structure Plan. The SPD sets out detailed planning and design guidelines for the external alteration of commercial buildings, primarily shops and offices. The SPD forms part of the Council's efforts to protect and enhance the Borough's town centres.

Development of the SPD

A draft version of the SPD was made available for comment from 23 July to 3 September 2010. The comments received and a revised draft were then considered at the Council's Executive Committee on 17 November 2010 when the Committee resolved to adopt the SPD.

Competition

As part of the consultation on the development of the SPD, a competition to find the Borough's favourite shopfront was held.  Further information on the competition results.
