July 2005 marked the official opening of Barrow Park following
the refurbishment work funded by the Heritage Lottery, with the
assistance of LDA
Design.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the town centre
and visit the Park for some peace and tranquillity!
Set in an area of 45 acres, accessed from Abbey Road, Park
Drive, Park Avenue and Greengate Street, the award
winning Park provides the perfect place to stroll on sunny
afternoons. Renowned for its abundance of trees and ornamental
flower beds, the Park also provides such facilities as crown green
bowling, putting green, boating and display glasshouse.
There is also a miniature railway and play area for younger
children. A new state-of-the-art concrete skatepark is now
complete and is accessible from Park Drive.
Barrow Park won a Landscape Institute Award in 2007 for
Heritage and Conservation, has been awarded Green Flag status for
2009/2010 and is also the North West Regional Winner of the Briggs
and Stratton Britain's Best Park Competition 2008. We always
strive to provide a welcoming and safe Park and welcome any
comments you may have.

Dogs in Barrow Park
On 30th June 2008, 4 new Dog Control Orders came into force
and the following 3 apply to Barrow Park:
Dog Control Order 1: Removing Dog Faeces.
This order requires people in control of a dog to immediately
remove dog faeces deposited by their dog.
Dog Control Order 2: Keeping Dogs on Leads.
This order requires people in control of a dog to keep it on a lead
at all times.
Dog Control Order 4: Excluding Dogs From
Land. This order prohibits dogs from entering the children's play
area.
Failure to comply with any of the above orders will result in
a Fixed Penalty of £75 and these will be issued by
Park Rangers, PCSOs, Park Officers or any other representative
of Barrow Borough Council. The police will be called in any
situation where a person in control of a dog contravenes an order
and does not co-operate with the Fixed Penalty Procedure.
Fishing in Barrow Park
A local bye-law bans fishing in any part of the lake, whether
with a rod & line or with a net.
PC Ian Lumb, Newbarns Community Officer explains: "Fishing in the lake is a safety
issue because the hooks can be dangerous to other park users when
casting, and left-over fishing line can be dangerous for
wildlife". On Friday 3rd July, a duck had to
be put to sleep after it was found with a hook
and line lodged in it's throat.
PC Lumb stated
that the police will be educating and advising
first-time offenders up until the
end of July. After that, they will be enforcing the bye-law by
reporting people, which could result in having to attend the
Magistrates Court.
The strong message being
sent out is that no fishing of any kind is allowed in Barrow
Park.
Barrow
Park....always something going on, always something growing
on!
