Obtaining a Residents Permit

To obtain a Residents' Permit you must be resident in the property for which you are applying for the permit.  Permits are not issued to owners of properties who are not actually residing in them e.g. they are renting the property out. You should bring the following documents to the Customer service desk at the Cornwallis entrance of the  Town Hall:  All residential properties are entitled to 2 annual permits per property (3 permits for properties on Barrow Island) together with 60 visitor permits per annum.  For a visitor permit you must provided proof of residency in the form of either a Council tax bill or tenancy agreement and the vehicle registration number of the vehicle for which a visitor permit is required.  The visitor permits can be obtained in advance or on the day on which they are required.
  • Your current Council Tax Bill or Tenancy Agreement (these are used to prove your domestic occupancy of the property).
  • The Registration Document of the vehicle for which you want the Permit (the vehicle must be registered at the address on your Council Tax Bill).
These guidelines are only a brief description of the requirements that must be met to obtain a Permit.  For further information please contact Parking Services.

Resident Only Schemes

There are currently two Resident Only zones in Barrow.  These are the Park Avenue and Warwick Street schemes. Visitor permits are also available for the resident only schemes as shown above for the town centre resident permit schemes.

If you park in any of the bays in these areas without a valid Resident Permit you will be liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) immediately.

Please note that Disabled Badge Holders are not exempt from the restrictions in these areas.  A valid Resident Permit must be displayed in any vehicle parked in a Resident Only parking bay.
