Introducing the Mayor of Barrow-in-Furness.

Mayor of Barrow - 2016-2017 - Councillor Mrs. Anita Husband

My name is Anita Gwendoline Husband and I am honoured to serve the Borough of Barrow and Furness as Mayor for 2016/17.  I have been a Councillor since 2006 representing North Walney.

On the Council I am a committee member of Planning and also Overview and Scrutiny.  Before becoming a Councillor I was a member of North Walney Tenants and Residents Association, where I organised the Walney Carnival with other group members.  I was also a member of Friends of Walney, a group who did many projects for Walney Island including the Jubilee Bridge Centenary Celebration.

For my Mayoral year my chosen charities are the Barrow Branch of the Royal British Legion, the Barrow Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, the Barrow and District Disability Association and the North West Air Ambulance.

I believe all these associations do a fantastic job and benefit so many people in the Barrow and Furness area.

One of my aims is to carry on inviting the children of the area to visit the Town Hall for tours.  As Deputy Mayor to Councillor Ann Thomson - being with the children during tours was amazing and we looked forward to their visits.  Also, I want to try and visit and support as many voluntary groups in the area.  Volunteers are a very important asset to us all and should be supported.

 Deputy Mayor of Barrow

The Deputy Mayor of Barrow for 2016/2017 is Councillor Tony Callister.  Councillor Husband has a Mayoress and a Consort.
