Community Alarm Service

(please scroll to bottom of page for information on Sheltered Accommodation for Older People)

The Homelink Service provided by Barrow Borough Council closed in April 2012.   However, Cumbria Adult Social Care is able to offer a range of options which include:

Support through a Telecare Prevention Service provided through Adult Social Care and delivered by VNC Lifeline.  The service available will include:
  • 24 hour, seven days per week telephone monitoring service based on a family and friends response service.
  • Equipment, provided by Adult Social Care, will include a base unit, pendant, and smoke alarm.
  • There will be a weekly service charge of £1.81, payable to VNC Lifeline.

A Telecare Service could be offered to residents if they already have a care/support package with Adult Social Care, and will include all of the above equipment and any additional equipment currently available that may be of support.

Telecare equipment would be installed by VNC Lifeline and Barrow Borough Council will disconnect any existing alarm equipment already installed.

How do I get a Telecare Unit through Adult Social Care?

If you already have a social worker or occupational therapist, please ask them about Telecare.

If you do not have a social worker, please contact the local Adult Social Care office on (01229) 407444 or 407446 or email barrowssd@cumbria.gov.uk   If you prefer you can ask someone else to contact Adult Social Care on your behalf.

For further information on Telecare please read the booklet Telecare in Cumbria or click on http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/healthandsocialcare/adultsocialcare/telecare/telecare.asp.

Age UK can also offer additional advice and support http://www.ageuk.org.uk/home-and-care/
