Transfers
By transfer we mean that we allocate a property for you to
move into when the previous tenant has moved out.
Should you want to transfer from one Council property to
another, you should complete a Cumbria Choice Based LettingsScheme
Form. You can request a form by:
- phoning: 01229 876554 or 876302;
- emailing: housinglettings@barrowbc.gov.uk;
- writing to: Housing Department, Cavendish House, 78 Duke
Street, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria LA14 1RR;
- or, alternatively, you can complete an application form
online via the Cumbria Choice website. Please
note you must firstly register to take part in the
scheme and you can do this online at http://www.cumbriachoice.org.uk/. Once
registered you can then complete the form online.
Who can apply to transfer?
A tenant may apply for a transfer if:
- they have held their current tenancy for 12 months and have
maintained a clear rent account for three months prior to applying;
and
- the current tenancy is in a good state of repair and
decoration.
These criteria may be waived in exceptional
circumstances.
If you meet the above criteria and wish to apply for a
transfer, please contact the Housing Department (as
above) for an application form.

Furnished Tenancies

are responsible for the upkeep of all furniture and fittings and to
ensure they are left to an acceptable standard. An inventory will
have been taken at the commencement of your tenancy and will be
checked again if you end the tenancy.
