The aim of the Barrow Port project is to redevelop the
area as a high quality living, working and leisure environment
connecting the town to its waterfront. A 300
hectare site covering a significant proportion of Barrow Port
and Barrow Island has been earmarked for this opportunity.
The initial project was developed through the Barrow Port
Masterplan in 2003/4. The scheme, also known as 'The
Waterfront, Barrow-in-Furness' is now being progressed through
a formal planning policy document, the Barrow Port Area Action
Plan which is due to be formally adopted in July
2010. This ambitious scheme is being developed in
partnership with Cumbria County Council, West Lakes
Renaissance, Associated British
Ports, North West
Regional Development Agency and the Homes and Communities
Agency

- 65,000m2 of employment floorspace at the Waterfront Business
Park
