Equality Impact Assessments

You are in:  Home Page  >   Community & Living  >   Equality and Diversity  >   Equality Impact Assessments

Equality legislation requires the Council to demonstrate that we understand the effects of our services and policies on people with the protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act (2010). To help fulfil this requirement we have adopted a programme of thematic equality impact assessments. The themes are listed below.

Impact assessment is a way of assessing and consulting on the effects that a function, policy or practice is likely to have on groups of people within our community. As part of this ongoing process we welcome and value any feedback on our EIA process or the documents published below. Any comments may be sent to us at equality@barrowbc.gov.uk.

As part of our work on the Achieving Equality Project, we are committed to developing a shared approach to EIA with the other Cumbrian Councils. So some of the EIAs listed below will be carried out by Barrow Borough Council alone, while others will be part of a county-wide exercise.

Completed EIAs are published in the table below. Assessments completed before we adopted a thematic approach are grouped in the relevant theme.
