Hazardous Waste

You are in:  Home Page  >   Environment  >   Rubbish and Waste Disposal  >   Commercial Waste

Barrow Borough Council cannot currently offer a service for the collection of hazardous waste.

Local residents may take hazardous waste to any County Council civic amenity site and give it to the attendant.  Private waste contractors will deal with hazardous and special waste arising from a trade or business.

If you would like advice on the collection of hazardous waste, please contact the Environment Agency on 0800 807060 or use this link to the Environment Agency website which provides information on the disposal of hazardous waste.  Alternatively there may be approved companies listed in the yellow pages under "Waste disposal services".

Special precautions may be needed when disposing of and moving hazardous waste such as Asbestos, and arrangements for its collection can be made by contacting companies in Yellow Pages.

To download free leaflets containing advice about managing and working with asbestos in buildings, please use this link to the Health and Safety Executive asbestos website, which also provides information on compliance with asbestos legislation.

The Environment Agency website detailed above also provides information on the disposal of asbestos.
